The exhibition Another Terra by IN Residence at the Biennale di Venezia was extended until November 9. For the occasion Ciszak Dalmas presented A R C A: "NASA Planetary Protection Office was created to protect celestial bodies from earth contamination during scouting expeditions by humans in order to study an alien environment in its natural condition.
Instead, A R C A gives the chance of transferring to the planet to be colonized genetic information of some animal and plant species, with the aim of recreating an earth-like habitat in the new environment.
A R C A is a treasure chest where the memory of a complex environmental system is kept. It’s a portable storage where the seeds of a universe, made of earth related images and memories, are preserved."

The works presented, created as unique pieces and imagined as 'minimal carry-ons' for a hypothetic journey of a human being towards a 'twin' planet of Earth, are objects with a high expressive value, thought in order to suggest an analysis on some relevant topics about the way in which human beings are related to the objects around them, which they use on an everyday basis, probing into a radically different environmental context from that of our own everyday experience. LET IT OPEN | IED MADRID
LET IT OPEN is an academic research project focused on how the work of contemporary designers is shifting from an individual to a collaborative approach. The project is inspired by the open-design methodology, first proposed by Enzo Mari in ‘Autoprogettazione 1977’ and followed by current movements such as Recession Design and Infrastructures by Thomas Lommee. During a trimester 20 students designed ‘open-projects’ made out of standard components which are industrially produced and parts which are very simple to produce, as DIY (‘do it yourself’). The result is a collection of 'open source' objects that are reproducible with an easy manufacturing process, with a very high facility to replace or repair parts by anyone at an affordable price. Each project is then uploaded in the internet sharing its construction manual and technical sheets in order to be replicate by anyone in the world. To see the project click here.
